Traditional Newfoundland Apple Flips
Start your day with a freshly baked apple flip with a delicious spicy apple filling and a nice cup of hot tea.
My mouth is watering just looking at these pictures, I hope you feel the same way. You can also make this dough recipe and roll in parchment paper a place in your fridge until you are ready to make your apple flips. The dough will be ok for a couple of days or freeze what you are not going to use.

- Apples - 2 any type
- Ground Cloves - 1/2 Tsp
- Ground Nutmeg - 1/2 Tsp
- Ground cinnamon - 1 Tsp
- Lemon Juice - 1 Tsp
- Brown sugar - 1/2 Cup
- Flour - 2 1/2 Cups
- Butter - 1 Cup
- Sugar - 1/2 Cup White
- Eggs - 2 Large
- Baking Powder - 2 Tsp
- Vanilla - 1 Tsp
- Sea Salt - Pinch as needed
- Evaporated Milk or Heavy Cream - 1/4 Cup
1 In a medium bowl cream together butter and sugar then add vanilla, egg, cream, continue mixing everything together.
2 Sift in flour ,baking powder, and salt into mixture continue mixing until all combined.
3 Then take half the dough and place in the fridge for about fifteen minutes while you are getting your apples ready, then put dough on the counter top with a dusting of flour. Roll out with a rolling pin or bottle, place a bowl about 6” round and then on one side put 3 teaspoons of your apple mixture.
4 Then pinch the ends together with a fork, pre-heated oven to 350° for 20 to 25 minutes depending on your oven or until golden brown.
5 When baked remove from oven serve hot or cold with whipped cream or ice cream, on its own.
Apple Filling Method:
3 Apples any type
1/2 Tsp Cloves
1/2 Tsp Nutmeg
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tsp Lemon Juice
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Peel apples then cut in small pieces, place in bowl.
2 Then add all spices, lemon and brown sugar, mix together.
3 Then follow the top instructions.
These delicious apple flips are the best you have ever tasted, they have a soft crust and a spicy apple filling. I can remember these apple flips has a child and coming home from school and my mom would have a batch of these delicious Apple Flips coming out of the oven. The smell of baking or food cooking is the best kind of feeling one can ever have, and this is what memories are made of. Cutting out any size of dough is ok but this size makes a prefect apple flip.
