Rainbow Bread

Hi and welcome to our website!
Have you ever made homemade rainbow bread before?
If no!
This recipe is for you, so make yourself a cup of tea and sit back and watch our short video tutorial to make yours today!!!

Only a few simple ingredients to make our delicious homemade Rainbow Bread today.
Flour, sugar, yeast, butter, sea salt and food colouring or homemade food colouring depending on you and your preference.

I tried to make some homemade food dye for our bread but the concentration of the dye didn't work for the dough. It needed a little more colour to show in the bread. So I'm using food colouring from the store to make the colour in the dough....

Add one teaspoon of dry yeast to a cup of warm water....let proof for 5 minutes.
After it's proofed pour in with your dry ingredients.

We hope you are still very interested in making our rainbow bread here today, continue on to more info and pictures to make yours today!!

Ingredients
- All- purpose flour - 3½ cups
- Warm Water - 1¼ cups, more if needed
- Active Dry Yeast or Fast Rising - 1 tsp
- Sea salt - ½ tsp
- Sugar - 1 tsp, to add with yeast and water
- Butter or margarine - 2 tbsp, melted or room temp
- Food Colouring - 4 different colours
- Butter or margarine - 1 tbsp, for glazing baked bread
Instructions
- In a large bowl add 3 cups flour and sea salt mix together.
- Then in a small bowl add warm water, yeast and sugar, let rise for 5 minutes.
- In small bowl add butter, melt butter in microwave for 10 second, then pour in with the dry ingredients.
- After yeast have risen pour in with the other ingredients, then start mixing everything together with a spoon or mixer with hook.
- When dough becomes hard to mix with spoon, use your hand adding in the extra ½ cup flour to knead it by pulling the dough towards and pushing downwards, if you need more warm water or flour to bring it all together thats ok, mixing for about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Form into a ball and cover, place in warm place to rise for 30 minutes.
- After risen DON’T DEFLATE dough, then cut into 4 small pieces. Then each small piece of dough add four drops of food colouring and do this to all four pieces with different colours in each. This is the rainbow colours with each dough piece a different colour. After using your gloved hand of not roll them by pulling the dough on a floured countertop and rolling the dough until each piece forms a ball and the food colouring is blended in each one… Then cover with a piece of parchment paper and towel let rise for 20 minutes in a warm place.
- Oil one or two bread pans with butter.
- After dough is risen, if you are only making one loaf of bread, flatten each piece of dough and layer each one on top of each other and food the dough under to form one long piece of coloured dough. Place in to pan and cover again to let rise for another 30 minutes. If you are going to make two loafs of small bread, cut the four balls in half and follow the above method.
- Pre-heat oven to 350ºF then bake for 30 minutes, depending on your oven.
- Then remove baked bread from oven take out of pan or pans and place on a cooling rack, brush with butter. Cover with a towel to soften top or cool to room temp.
Bonita’s Tips:
You can make your own food colouring by using strawberries, spinach, blueberries and other food colours or use the store bought colours.

Four colours of food dye!

When the dough rises for about 15 minutes or so, then flatten it and layer it on top of each colour.

Form the layered dough together and form a full loaf of dough to rise for 30 minutes. Cover with a towel to keep warm.
