Cod Casserole
Cod Casserole made with fresh cod and homemade stuffing called dressing, made with savoury.

This recipe was given to me by my Aunt Clara she has been making this recipe for years for her family. I was so delighted by the ingredients and how quick and easy it was to make it,  I couldn’t wait to share it with everyone else.

My Aunt Clara is a lovely cook and have been making some delicious seafood meals for her family and a lot of visitors as well for years.  I’m so glad she shared this recipe with me, anyway back to this delicious quick and easy meal that your family will love, that’s if they love cod.

stewed cod
Fresh Cod fillets for a delicious casserole.

When making this dish use fresh cod or if you are using frozen cod let it thaw first pat it dry and then follow this recipe. Frozen fish or frozen berries they release a lot of liquid when they start to thaw so remove it.

If you like deep fried cod with French fry’s and dressing you will love making this meal.

Ok” it’s not deep fried but it is a combination of cod and dressing together and the best part it’s baked.

Cod Casserole
Layers of fresh cod and homemade dressing with savoury.

Also if you would like to have homemade fries with it and make a side of gravy go ahead it’s your meal and you can make it the way you like it.

Cod Casserole
Homemade cod casserole served with a side of vegetables and potatoes

I served mine with a side of vegetables and potatoes with no gravy. This baked cod casserole dish is nice and moist, it got a crispy top layer that is so tasty it’s hard to have only one serving.

Thank you so much for stopping by, please leave me a message before you go I would love to here from you.

    1. can i use panko crumbs instead of the bread crumbs?

      1. Hi Dee. Thank you for your message and for stopping by, panko crumbs would be ok for the top but you would need a stuffing type bread for
the recipe in layers. The panko crumbs would make the recipe to dry and may not taste good. You can use a homemade stuffing or store both, using savoury or sage for the spice. Enjoy and thank you 🙂 Bonita

I promised my husband (from Grand Bank) a fish supper. All I did was Google a couple items and your page popped up. This casserole was easy and tasty! I’ll be keeping this recipe. Thanks for the easy to follow video/recipe.

Hi Bonita, love your website and visit often. I love the simplicity of your dishes and they always turn out. Can you tell me the best way to make stale breadcrumbs for your Newfoundland Cod Casserole? A quick whirl in the food processor?

      1. Bonita

Hi MJ: Thank you so much for your message and for visiting our website, if your bread is stale or at less 4 to 5 days old it will be easy to grate it. You can do so in the food processor or with your hands just put a piece of bread between two hand and rub together and it with brake into small pieces. If its fresh bread brake into small pieces and put it in the oven on a 250º heat for 20 minutes and then grate in the food processor or by hand, I hope this helps and have a wonderful easter weekend. 🙂 Bonita

    4. Made the codfish casserole today with the dressing, was delicious. I love your recipes, so good but so easy to do.

Another easy recipe. Spending time with visiting family instead of at the stove. I’d call that a holiday.

Hi Mary: You are very welcome and I agree totally, family time on a holiday is very important. I’m glad to help and I must say this is a lovely recipe my aunt Clara shared with me. Have a lovely Easter weekend. Bonita
