Figgy duff

Food and cookingAlso written figged duff, figgity duff

A boiled raisin pudding. The figgy means raisins, not figs.

Where the word comes from

The Dictionary of Newfoundland English notes that figged duff and figgy duff are probably said the same way, and that the use of figgy for raisins comes from the southwest of England. Its supplement also records raisin bread being called figged bread.
