Carrot Tea Buns

If you are looking for a twist of a delicious tea bun you are in the right place. We have a savoury carrot tea bun recipe you can serve with a nice bowl of soup or stew.
They also can be served with a nice cup of tea and butter!!

Shredded carrots is the main ingredient in our recipe and they are so tasty!!

Shredded carrot, butter, sugar, sea salt, flour and milk is a few of our ingredients you need to make these tea buns.

Mix ingredients by hand or mixer...Next add two eggs into a half cup of milk. Mix together until blended and gradually add to the dry ingredients.


After formed into a log, cut 1/2 inch slices you can make a ball or leave flat. Put on a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.

Ingredients
- All - purpose flour - 2 cups, plus extra for counter
- Cold butter or margarine - ½ cup, COLD
- Cold milk or cream - ½ cup
- Sugar - 1/3 cup or less
- Sea salt - ½ tsp
- Shredded carrot - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2 each
- Baking powder - 4 tsp
Instructions
Carrot Tea Buns
Preheat oven to 375º F, bake 15 to 20 minutes,
Recipe for Tea Buns:
2 cups all-purpose white or wheat flour 1/3 cup white sugar
½ cup COLD butter or (HARD)margarine ½ Tsp Sea salt
½ Cup COLD evaporated milk or cream 4 Tsp baking powder
2 egg 1 cup shredded carrots
Method:
In a bowl toss all dry ingredients together, then add pieces of cold butter and mix well together until crumble. Add the shredded carrots.
Mix one egg and milk together in another bowl and add to mixture working it in with your hand or mixer with paddle until almost into a ball.
Continue on forming dough into a ball then the dough in a log of dough to 11 x 2.5 inches. Cut 12 to 15 pieces and place in a prepared cast iron pan or a baking sheet.
You can also pinch off the size you like but all the one size.
Mix one egg in a bowl and brush over the tea buns before you bake them.
Then put pan in a preheated 375ºf oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until light golden brown. 190ºF internal temp.
Bonita’s Tips:
- You can also add mashed cold carrots if you have leftovers or bottled carrots.
- Add raisins or dried cranberries for extra taste. (optional)
