If you are looking for a recipe for TURNIP CASSEROLE you are in the right place, here in Newfoundland and Labrador we call a rutabaga a turnip, we do know the difference but this is it.

I hope I got you excited to make our recipe for TURNIP CASSEROLE, this recipe makes a lovely side dish if you are asked to a pot luck and if you are having baked ham and turkey. You can rewarm this dish again and again, until its all gone. Not a lot of ingredients to makes this dish but having it all together and baked in the oven is lovely.

This is a easy recipe and so tasty, I hope you are convinces to make this one for your next pot luck lunch or supper.

Ingredients

Turnip ( Rutabaga ) - 4 or 5 medium
Butter - 2 Tbsp
Eggs - 2 large
Stale Bread Crumbs - 2 cups
Brown sugar - 2 tbsp
Nutmeg - 1/8 tsp
Black or White Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Sea salt - 1/2 tsp
Onion - 1 medium

Instructions

In a saucepan add water let boil and then 1/2 tsp sea salt, onion, then peel 4 turnips cut in pieces and boil until fork tender.

When turnips is boiled remove from water into bowl and mash with 4 tbsp butter, pepper, nutmeg, brown sugar.

Then in a separate bowl add eggs and mix together, add to turnip and fold together with 1 cup of bread crumbs.

In a casserole pan add turnip mixture to pan and top with bread crumbs and bake in a 350º oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

I love having turnips mashed with just salt and pepper and a little butter, having this tasty choice is really nice. Cook your turnips first until fork tender and then while its boiling add one onion and 1/2 tsp of sea salt to season your turnips.

These turnips was grown local from our farmers, every time i’m making a recipe I try to get all fresh ingredients from our local farmers or fisherman. My dad was a local organic farmer years ago and his vegetables was amazing, everyone that lived in our community would be waiting until Saturday when we would be selling vegetables.
