An amber berry that grows low in the bogs and ripens in late summer. Most of the world calls it a cloudberry. We make jam, pies and tarts with it.
Bakeapple
Where the word comes from
The Dictionary of Newfoundland English identifies the bakeapple as the cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus). Its supplement says the first part of the name was likely borrowed in Labrador from an Inuit word, now appik, in the 1770s, and joined with the English word apple.
